This coalition of concerned human scientists is dedicated to the notion that scientists and scholars do not lose either their freedom of speech or their freedom of inquiry by virtue of engaging in scientific and scholarly inquiry into the nature of our common humanity. As human scientists, we are dedicated to the welfare and dignity of the humans who consent to participate with us in our investigations. We are bound by the codes of ethics of our respective professional organizations to do no harm to them. However, we are also united in believing that the present set of procedures employed by Institutional Review Boards rob us of our civil rights and our academic freedoms in a fashion inconsistent with the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. We commit ourselves to retake those rights. We hope to do so by cooperating with the administrations of our various universities, but if we must resort to the courts to redress these grievances, we will.
